What God's Word Can Do

God’s Word is powerful, so much so that man cannot stop it. People can resist it and pervert it, but they cannot stop its powerful working in the hearts of man. The Lord encouraged Jeremiah along these lines in Jeremiah 23:29: “Is not My Word like a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”

The Word of God burns up the chaff of man’s thinking and religious falsehoods, exposing the error of their way. The false doctrine that people cling to is consumed by the powerful truths of God’s Word and shown to be nothing. God’s Word also breaks the hardness of man’s heart, turning stubbornness into submissiveness. The Bible is unique in its power.

The Holy Spirit of God uses His powerful Word to convince men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. We don’t always see the work God is doing in a person’s heart, but we can trust that He is working. So, keep using God’s Word, the right verse for the right occasion; and rely on the Lord to use His Word in a powerful way in a person’s life to glorify Him.

The birth of Christ, as recorded in Matthew, begins with a genealogy. Often genealogies in the Bible get overlooked because the list of names is (by and large) unfamiliar and seemingly insignificant.
