Help in Your Trials

When the Lord Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He suffered more than any other man ever could suffer. Psalm 22, among many other places, records our Lord’s greatest hour of trial. In this psalm, Christ sets the supreme example of how to glorify God in trials.

First, never change your view of God. Even though Jesus cried out, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Ps. 22:1), He never lost sight of the goodness of God. V. 3 finds the Lord expressing, “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” The Son of God knew His Father was eternally separated from sin and could never do wrong; therefore, He trusted Him and praised Him. We may not understand the difficulty we are in, but know that God makes no mistakes. He never does wrong. Always see God as faithful (Ps. 22:9-10). Trust Him and praise Him.

Second, persevere through the trail. The Bible says that Jesus endured the cross (Heb. 12:2), and Psalm 22:11-21 accounts the horrific suffering Jesus endured. Yet He persevered. He finished the work the Father gave Him.

Third, look forward to the future. The Lord Jesus looked forward to worship in the church and worship in the Kingdom (Ps. 22:22, 25). Remember, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” (Ps. 30:5). Following your trial comes greater worship of the Lord in the church and someday with the Lord forever. Keep your eyes on Jesus.
