Be Ready

Yesterday evening as I was leaving the hospital after making a visit, a lady walked toward me and said, “You and I are carrying the same book.” She was referring to the Bible I had tucked under my arm. She showed me her book, a Bible printed in 1913. I asked her what religious denomination she was, and she said Catholic. I followed it up by asking if she knew for sure that she would go to heaven when she died. She said, “That would be nice.” Then she said with earnest that she was trying to fulfill the laws.

I opened my Bible to I John 5:13 and showed her that we can know for sure that we have eternal life. Then I explained how we are justified by faith, not by works (Rom. 5:1). It was an unexpected opportunity and a blessing to be a gospel light to a person in need.

Peter exhorted the brethren in I Peter 3:15, “and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”As a church group, we are salt and light in this valley. We have the truth, and we have fellowship with God.Let’s look to be a witness to those around us and to preach the gospel to every creature.
