Objective Delight

Romans 7:22 teaches us that the inward man of the believer delights in the law of God. Unsaved people might claim that they delight in the law of God. But, delight in the Word of God is objective, which means we can evaluate our delight and strengthen it. Consider these verses from Psalm 119:

Psalm 119:16. If you delight in the law of God, you will call it to mind and act on it.

Psalm 119:24. If you delight in the law of God, you will look to it for guidance.

Psalm 119:35. If you delight in the law of God, you will follow its leading.

Psalm 119:47. If you delight in the law of God, you will love it.

Psalm 119:70. If you delight in the law of God, you will be content with it.

Psalm 119:77. If you delight in the law of God, you will depend on it.

Psalm 119:174. If you delight in the law of God, you will long for it.

Delight for the Word of God centers on loving it. Out of that love comes a desire to know it, to trust it, to be guided by it, and to obey it. What a treasure God’s Word is! Are you delighting in the Word of God?
