The Counsels of the Wicked

Whose counsel is listened to more: the saved person’s counsel or the unsaved person’s? Typically, people listen to the counsel from the world, as though it is right and the righteous man’s is wrong. In some cases, the more wicked a person is, the more his words are respected! Solomon wrote these wise words: “The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit” (Pro. 12:5).

Righteous people think right; hence, their counsel is sincere, honest, and true. Not so with the wicked. Their thoughts, plans, and intentions are less than honest, and the ends of their counsels are corruption and destruction. But they don’t seem that way. They seem like they will benefit, please, and honor. To whom do people listen?

Two thoughts. First, as a believer, don’t get caught up in the immediate gratification and selfish ambitions of lost people. Their ideas stoke the flesh, but keep your attention fastened on the Word. Second, don’t get weary in saying the right thing, even when the guidance is not heeded. The truth is powerful; God’s Word penetrates to the core. Aren’t you glad people kept telling you the truth? “For in due season we shall reap if we faint not.”
