An Anchor of the Soul

Ocean-going vessels are designed to navigate rough seas—20-to 30-foot seas. But even the largest vessels at times must drop anchor in order to hold their position and prevent drifting. Anchors are unseen, fastened into the sea bed, deep beneath the water’s surface. They keep a ship fixed and stable. In the greatest storm and the fiercest winds, a ship can maintain a stable position due to its anchor.

The Bible talks about the anchor of our soul. “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil” (Heb. 6:19). It is the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the anchor of our soul. The promise of salvation comes through Him. The entrance into the holy of holies is because of Him. He keeps us stable in the greatest of trials. He is our eternal life. He is sure and steadfast.

Why don’t believers drift away and get overtaken by the world’s system and temptation? Because Jesus secures us. He keeps us anchored to the rock. In your greatest trials, you have an anchor of the soul: Jesus Christ.

Christ the King

The birth of Christ, as recorded in Matthew, begins with a genealogy. Often genealogies in the Bible get overlooked because the list of names is (by and large) unfamiliar and seemingly insignificant.
