Thou Art My People...Thou Art My God

The Book of Hosea begins with the Lord giving a unique command to the prophet of God: to marry an unfaithful wife, Gomer, who illustrated Israel’s unfaithfulness to God. The three children born to them had unique names: a son Jezreel, “God soweth”; a daughter Loruhamah, “unbeloved, unpitied”; and a son Loammi, “not My people.” The Lord would severely judge His people for their spiritual idolatries. Bad news.

The good news is that the Lord, even though He would set His people aside in judgment, would someday work with them again and redeem them spiritually and restore them. He would save them. In that day, the Lord will bring Israel back, speak comfortably to her, and take away the false gods. “And I will betroth thee unto me for ever….I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD” (Hos. 2:19-20).

During the Tribulation, the Lord will work with Israel to save her. In that day, one third of the Jewish people will receive Christ. They will be our brothers and sisters in Christ! Our merciful Savior says such blessed words in Hosea 2:23: “and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.”
