The Strength of God

The strength to live the Christian life far exceeds any ability we have in our natural selves. God never intended us to depend upon ourselves, whether it be our own thinking, our experiences, our determination, or our abilities. Faith relies upon the Lord. The Apostle Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Phil. 4:13). That is the key—do the will of God by the strength of God.

 

The Lord avails His power, wisdom, and love for us to do the most difficult tasks. Paul testifies, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Phil. 2:13). Both the motivation and the follow through come from the Lord’s working. We must cooperate.

 

To receive the Lord’s strength, we must depend on Him. That requires humility. We show humility by wanting to do the Lord’s will, not ours; and by depending on Him for strength, not on ourselves. Finally, you obey what the Lord says. To do otherwise is to act in pride. Remember, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

 

If you are saved, God’s power is at work in you, and it is resurrection power (Eph. 1:19-20). Submit to the Lord and let Him strengthen as you obey Him.
