The psalmist said in Psalm 119:11, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Hiding God's Word in our heart helps to keep us from sinning. You see, when God's Word is in your heart, it is in the core of who you are. It is in the part of you that is the foundation of your thoughts, will, and emotion.

When you hide God's Word in your heart, you put it deeply down in you, as though there is no chance for it's escaping. You do this because you want to think about it all throughout your day. You want the teachings of Scripture to influence every part of your life for that day and for your entire life. You must be intentional about this.

To hide God's Word in your heart, you must read it. Read the Bible every day, and then meditate on it: think about it. I suggest that you read a Proverb each day, even the one that corresponds with the day of the month, For instance, if today is July 5, you could read Proverbs 5. You could also read a chapter or two from another OT passage, a psalm, and a chapter from a NT passage. Reading through entire books of the Bible is a great way to learn the Bible. God's Word will change you.

Someone once said, "This Book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this Book." If you want to overcome sin, you must be saved, and you must read the Word of God. The Lord will show you what you need as you read, and then you must choose to obey what it says. If you do, your dis obedience will decrease and your obedience will increase.
