Gone So Soon

How quickly Christmas passes from the memory of the world! I was talking to a gentleman last week who told me that a couple of days before Christmas a store he entered already had Valentine’s decorations displayed. Restaurants and stores will play Christmas music during the holidays (most of it is secular); but shortly after Christmas, they go back to playing jazz, rock, or country. The world definitely keeps Jesus at bay.

As believers, Christ is our life! In other words, we don’t think about Jesus, sing about Jesus, and talk about Jesus in limited segments of our week (an hour at church) or year. Christ takes preeminence every day, throughout the day. Paul wrote in Colossians 1:18, “That in all things He might have the preeminence.” When Christ holds first-place in our lives, we love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. This looks like submitting to Christ as the Head of the church and obeying His Word.

For us, prioritizing and exalting the Lord Jesus is not something seasonal we do; it is a life-long mission because we desire to love and serve Christ.

The Apostle Paul struggled with a “ thorn in the flesh ” for quite some time. Some think the “thorn” was an oozing eye problem, but Paul calls it “ the messenger of Satan to buffet me ” (II Cor. 12:7)

Christ the King

The birth of Christ, as recorded in Matthew, begins with a genealogy. Often genealogies in the Bible get overlooked because the list of names is (by and large) unfamiliar and seemingly insignificant.
