Weak but Strong

The Apostle Peter followed the Lord faithfully during Christ’s earthly ministry. Like the other apostles, Peter had his problems; he had his spiritual ups and downs. Peter loved the Lord and saw himself as uniquely strong for Christ. The night Christ was betrayed, Peter confidently protested, “Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended” (Mt. 26:33). He even proclaimed that he would die with Christ rather than deny Him (Mt. 26:35). Peter boldly announced his strength, but he didn’t realize his weakness.

Satan desires to sift believers like wheat. Our ancient foe is crafty and relentless. He deceives and destroys (Lk. 22:31). How do we keep advancing spiritually? What keeps us standing despite the wiles of the devil? Jesus said, “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not” (Lk. 22:32). The Lord secures us; He enables us to do the will of God. The Lord makes us strong and keeps us strong.

Our strength comes from the Lord. By His grace we serve Him. Through His power we resist temptation. Because of the Lord Jesus we can live for Him. We place our confidence in Christ. Like the Apostle Paul testified, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Phil. 4:13).
