David was a man after God’s own heart. He dedicated his time and efforts to praising the Lord and to obeying the Lord. He wanted to please His faithful God. The Lord graciously chose David to be the king of Israel. However, with extraordinary honor came extraordinary difficulty. David was opposed by Saul for over a decade and by his family, not to mention the enemies of God from abroad and from those within the nation. Yet David kept his eyes on the Lord. He trusted God to guide his life and to right all wrongs. In Psalm 31 he said, “My times are in thy hand” (Ps. 31:15).

David didn’t fret when the wicked prospered; neither did he despair when the strong lurked for the weak. He didn’t faint when his reputation was slandered or fear at the threat of violence. David put his trust in the Lord, and he knew that God would deliver. David prayed. “I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech” (Ps. 17:6).

David trusted the Lord and was content with the Lord. He was satisfied with how God dealt with him and with the way God dealt with his enemies. When you can trust the Lord and be content in the hardest of times, you can be satisfied with the Lord all of the time. Your joy will be full. You will be strong in the Lord, and you will be a great testimony for Christ.
