In All Labour There Is Profit

Solomon records in Proverbs 14:23 these inspired words: “In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.” The wisdom is simple: hard work brings gain; talk alone results in lack. If you work hard at something—increasing knowledge or skill; finishing a project; getting in shape; developing a strong relationship or a standard of excellence; building new patterns—if you work hard, you will benefit. Hard work rewards you in one way or another. Don’t quit!

Notice how labor stands opposite of talk. Perpetual talk about accomplishing a task or developing some skill, but not acting on it, will not produce gain. We must do the work to get the benefit.

Take consolation that when you put in the work, you will benefit. “In all labour there is profit.” Don’t give up. Be not weary in well doing. Do not faint in the day of adversity. The greater the task, the greater the difficulty.

As Christians, we run a long race. Run the race by faith. Know that God’s Word never returns unto Him void. Keep trusting in the Lord and obeying His Word even if the outcomes you desire may not immediately present themselves. Stay faithful. Keep working at it. “In all labour there is profit.”
