Grow Stronger in Evangelism

Part of growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord is getting stronger in evangelism. We grow in our knowledge and understanding of the Word, even pertaining to salvation; in our boldness to say the appropriate Scripture at the right time; and in recognizing a person’s spiritual strongholds and how to deal with them.

Jesus knew Nicodemus’ works-based stronghold, especially as it related to his Jewish lineage as Abraham’s seed. Jesus went to the heart of the matter and told him he needed to be “born again” (Jn. 3:3). The woman at the well was different. Her wanton lifestyle bespoke dissatisfaction in life, to which Jesus spoke of eternal life as living water, which results in a person’s never thirsting. Then He said to her inductively, “Go, call thy husband” (Jn. 4). To the Pharisees, Jesus asked whose son Christ is? His follow-up question was this: “How then doth David in spirit call him Lord” (Mt. 22:42-43)?

Knowing what to say comes through prayer, knowing the Word, being led of the Holy Ghost, understanding the person you are dealing with, and experience. Keep evangelizing. Pray for opportunities. Pray about getting stronger in needed areas. Ask advice. Use what you know. Grow in grace.

Christ the King

The birth of Christ, as recorded in Matthew, begins with a genealogy. Often genealogies in the Bible get overlooked because the list of names is (by and large) unfamiliar and seemingly insignificant.
