Glory in the Lord

The Lord judged Judah for their sins. Essentially, they forgot God and elevated their will above His. What came out of their pride was a huge amount of disobedience. The Lord rebuked them in Jeremiah 9:23: “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches.”

Isn’t that how we tend to be: to exalt ourselves because of our intellect, our abilities, and our possessions? We compare ourselves to others and think that we are better because of the very things God has graciously given us, or we strive to catch up to someone else so we can bask in some supposed social status. The problem is that we glory in ourselves.

What the Lord said was this: “But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD” (Jer. 9:24).

Instead of trying to outshine someone else, make your boast be about God, that you know Him and have personal fellowship with Him. Don’t forget, “We love Him, because He first loved us” (I Jn. 4:19). Also, remember that God has been very gracious to you. If He gave you what you deserve…. The one who deserves all glory, the one who is worthy to shine, is the Lord Jesus Christ. Glory in Him.
